W3 Group project

This week we were tasked with working in a group to create a logo talored to a brief.

The brief seems to be asking for branding to a “New domestic animal behaviour centre” this alone suggests that the company is new and therefore has no history. This could provide an opportunity to create something new, fun but still professional. The company target audience is predominately dog owners, though they mention lower down that they can works with cats it seems that dogs are what the company is after.

The branding:

Needs to be fun, versatile and fun whilst maintaining professionalism.

They are local, but aim to be national. However would prefer not to be tied to a singular location.

The company wishes to be associated with Animal training and behaviour.

The key themes that they wish to be associated with are Respectful, understanding, education and positive.

I came up with several ideas but they all looked too traditional in some way so I decided to try looking into geometric art. In the end I thought about creating something simple with few shape variations and decided to stick with basic shapes to create something I thought looked new and interesting.

Motion Graphics – Re-Introduction to Illustrator

This week we had a breif introduction to Adobe illustrator, having had some experience with it in the past I had originally disliked the program. However the more I use it or at least try to learn how to, the more I appreciate the program, it’s similar to photoshop. The usual go to program when it comes to editing and drawing on a computer but unlike photoshop, illustrator can create vector images that can be scaled potentially infinatly whilst retaining the shape and detail. With this in mind it would be a good idea to spend extra time trying to learn how to use this program more efficiently.

Motion Graphics – Getting back into the swing of things

In the first week of this module we had a quick “crash course” with after effects to refresh our skills as a class. We went over the basic transform tools first. Once the tools had been explained and refreshed we then moved on to applying what we (re)learnt. This exercise took the form of finding a number of resources online and importing them into photoshop, from this we then had a breif refresher in how photoshop works and some of the updates that have happened in the latest version of Adobe CC. The task was to make one resource ready for animating, by cutting parts of the image and using seperate layers ready to import into After Effects.

This is what I did, first of all I cut this image of a cat so that the head and paw were made into two seperate layers, leaving the third layer as the body. Then I imported an image of New York, seperated the sky from the city and finally imported the assets into After Effects.

Once in after effects I parented the cat’s limbs back to the body and positioned the cat between the city and sky layers of the new york image. I then used the move and rotate tools to animate the now giant cat moving along the city.
